An excellent gilt-bronze Louis XVI quarter repeating mantel clock signed by the court clockmaker ‘G. Cornille A Dusseldorff’, enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute marking, foliate pierced and engraved hands, flat bottomed eight-day train movement signed on the backplate,with verge escapement and silk suspended pendulum, outer numbered countwheel quarter striking and seperate pull quarter repeating on two fine silvered bells, fitted in a finely cast and chiselled ormolu case surmounted by an urn with a berry finial, lion masks to the side, supported on scrolls with a garland in the centre placed on a breakfront base. Ormolu mounted ebonised plinth on lion feet.
Cornille was court clockmaker to Charles Theodore, Prince-Elector, Count Palatine and Duke of Bavaria (1724-1799).
